°3 cloves Ontario Garlic, pressed
°1 Ontario Egg 1/4 cup (50 mL) Ontario Milk
°1/4 cup (50 mL) breadcrumbs
°1 1/2 tsp. 1/2 tsp (7 mL) dried basil leaves
°1/2 tsp. 1/2 ts evry: salt and pepper
°1 lb (500 g) Extra Lean or Lean Ontario Ground Beef
°1 bottle (680 mL) tomato purée (passata style)
°1 Ontario carrot, grated
°1 small Ontario Onion, finely chopped
1°1 cup (250 mL) shredded Ontario Mozzarella
°1/4 cup (50 mL) Fresh Ontario Basil Leaves, torn
In a large bowl, with a fork, combine 2 garlic cloves, egg, milk, breadcrumbs, 1 tbsp. (5 mL) dried basil, 1/4 tsp. (1 mL) salt and the same amount of pepper. Add beef; mix until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Form 12 meatballs. Arrange in a single layer in an 11 x 7-inch (2 L) baking dish. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, carrot, onion and chili flakes. Add the remaining garlic, dried basil, salt and pepper. Pour mixture over meatballs and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 20 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and the cheese has melted. Cover with fresh basil.
